Mental Health Support for Immigrants, Refugees, and First-Generation Americans

Immigrants, refugees, and first-generation Americans face unique challenges when it comes to mental health, including cultural barriers, language differences, legal and economic obstacles, and stigma. It's important to recognize that mental health support is available for all individuals, regardless of immigration status. Below are some key resources to help navigate mental health care.

To learn more about how immigrants and refugees can access mental health care, visit NAMI’s page on
Mental Health Support for Immigrants, Refugees, and Undocumented Individuals.

For more information on the specific mental health challenges faced by Hispanic/Latinx immigrants and first-generation Americans, visit NAMI’s page on Hispanic/Latinx Immigrants and First-Generation Americans.

More Information:

  • Legal Rights: All individuals in the U.S. have the right to access mental health services, regardless of immigration status. Many health centers provide services to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay.
  • Community Support: Local organizations and cultural centers can help connect individuals with mental health services tailored to their specific needs.
  • Financial Assistance: Sliding scale fees and free clinics are available to help those who may face financial barriers.
